The Challenge

The Problem

People in new cities or even their own struggled to discover genuinely fun, relevant experiences nearby. Existing tools like Google Maps and TripAdvisor were built for search, not discovery. They told you where places were, but not who was going, what was happening, or whether it matched your vibe. Beyond venues, there was no platform connecting people who simply wanted to have fun together meet locals, join activities, or explore as a group. The social layer was completely missing from location discovery.

Build a platform that combines place discovery with people discovery. Funcity was designed to do what no map or review app could connect users not just to the nearest fun spots, but to locals who knew them best and communities already forming around them. Our Approach

Research & Discovery

Proximity matters:
Users consistently chose experiences close to them over objectively better options that required more effort to reach. The product needed to lead with location intelligence.

Social proofs:
People trusted recommendations from locals and peers far more than anonymous reviews. Building a human layer into discovery was non-negotiable.

Community creates retention:
Platforms that connected users to people, not just places, saw dramatically higher engagement and return visits. The social features weren't a bonus they were the product.
